Rice Energy is the private company founded by BlackRock energy-fund manager Daniel J. Rice III to develop natural gas deposits — sometimes in collaboration, and sometimes in competition, with publicly traded companies that Rice has selected for BlackRock’s mutual funds. Those dual roles have raised questions about potential conflicts of interest explored by The Wall Street Journal here and here.
But Rice’s side business raises environmental questions, as well.
